How To Do Keyword Research-Why do I say that doing keyword research is a must? When we build a website / blog for business, targeted traffic is a very valuable thing. This traffic can we get from many sources, one of which is from the Google search engine. If your website / blog is well optimized for the keywords you want, then most likely your website will be on the main page whenever someone is typing your chosen keywords.
1. Sign up for Google Adwords
Google Adwords is a free facility provided by Google to Advertiser to do market research. In order to use the Google Keyword Planner facility, please sign up first to https://adwords.google.com/ using your Gmail account. If you first use this tool, you will be directed to the Campaigns page, see the picture.
2. How to Use Google Keyword Planner
After successfully register, we can directly use this tool. Finish the first step above, we will see some menu on the Google Adwords page.
2.1. Please click menu "Tools", then will appear sub menu option. In the sub menu "Tools", please select "Google Keyword Planner", see the picture.
2.2. On the next page we will see some options for keyword research. Please click on "Search for new keyword and ad group ideas" option, see picture.
2.3. Please enter keywords related to your business in the fields provided, do not forget to edit the "Targeting" section. If your target market is Indonesia, enter Indonesia in the "Location" section, and enter Indonesian in the "Language" section. Then click "Get ideas", see picture.
2.4. Next we will see the result page where we can see the keyword trend we are looking for. Do not forget to click the "Keyword ideas" tab because we want to find keywords related to our main keyword. There we can also see some important data such as, the trend of each keyword last 12 months, the level of advertiser competition, and the estimated value of CPC for each keywords.
2.5. If you want to download all keyword ideas, please click on the "Download" link there and save it as an Excel CSV file.
3. Important Notes
The results displayed by Google Keyword Planner are statistical volume of keywords Exact Match or keywords exactly as typed by Google users. Sometimes we see that our preferred keywords are not so much sought by Google users, we can modify those keywords by using keywords from a list of keywords that exist in Google Keyword Planner.
The results displayed by Google Keyword Planner is the keyword search volume used from all devices like laptops, computers, and mobile, over the past 12 months. If we want to display the search volume of keywords from each device (laptop, computer, mobile) then just change the "Search volume trends" option to "Breakdown by device" or other options, see picture.
That's how keywords research using Google Keyword Planner that I often do when searching for the best keywords for my website. Keyword research is not a guarantee that your website / blog will get a good position in Google SERP, but this is the best step rather than wasting your time choosing any keyword that is rarely or never typed in Google.
